Excellent long-term collaboration RIVAL’s collaboration with Wavin began in 1968 and over the years, it has resulted in the delivery of calibrating sleeves, machinery and a multitude of tools.

Worked with RIVAL for many years It has been an incredibly good collaboration that has benefited Frede Madsen is a production technician at Wavin and primarily responsible for rotational moulding and hand-crafted products. Such work often requires specialised machinery and tools that cannot be bought off the shelf. He gives us a tour of the production premises, where the many years of collaboration with RIVAL have made their mark. Every five minutes, he stops and points to a machine, a mould or a tool made by RIVAL, and new items are constantly added. “I just sent an e-mail to Freddy Andersen earlier today in which I asked him to produce a special tool for a milling machine. I sent a file with an outline of the item and Freddy prepares a proposal for me. Once it has been approved, production begins. I have worked with Freddy for many years. It has been an incredibly good collaboration that has benefited me in many ways. Freddy has helped me solve many problems,” says Mr Madsen. Back and forth to Vilnius Some years ago, Wavin moved part of their production and production equipment to Lithuania. One day, a punching tool broke. “We didn’t have any documentation for it. It was not a machine produced by RIVAL. The part was sent to me and I passed it on to Freddy, who measured it. RIVAL produced the item, which was then returned to Vilnius in Lithuania. In this case, I asked Freddy for documentation in the form of drawings, measurements and the properties of the material. As a result, we could send a drawing to Lithuania, which they could place in their file for future reference.”

Good at machinery It is a decision at Group level that Wavin should not manufacture tools to any major extent. “We therefore rely heavily on subsuppliers. RIVAL is very good at machinery so we choose them for anything that involves large or medium-sized processing machinery, construction or CNC. For minor and more basic items, we use some of the small machinery works in our area. Good collaboration Freddy often comes to visit so we can discuss how to solve the problems. He is prepared to get in the car, if not the same day, then the day after. We don’t have complete documentation for everything, so he has to go out and measure. My collaboration with RIVAL is extremely good. We get what we ask for. If a steel or aluminium product requires a specific surface quality which involves processing, we definitely prefer RIVAL as supplier because they know our requirements to surfaces. We don’t have to specify that.”
