What do we mean by ethics? Ethics is about having ideals and taking responsibility. Ethical considerations form part of the decisions we make every day. As a rule, we know what is right and we make a choice that we can all live with.
Sometimes, however, we may not be so sure: our judgement may be affected by praise and flattery, gifts or money; we may confuse loyalty with what is right in the long run; we may be unaware of what is expected of us in another culture.
So what should we do? What does responsible behaviour mean to us? We could all use a simple set of guidelines to help us in difficult situations. Unfortunately, we cannot resolve all the dilemmas we face within our company simply by means of ethical guidelines.
The aim is to create a culture that encourages a dialogue about who and what we want to be. We want to create and maintain a corporate culture that is open and inquiring, yet also committed and responsible. Rules alone cannot replace the high level of commitment generated when we all agree on what, to the best of our judgement, represents the best alternative.
At the same time, it is essential to formulate in writing what we see as the most important issues.
We would like this page to be a source of guidance and inspiration – knowing full well that RIVAL can only make the right decisions with the help of staff, customers and suppliers.

Test Is it legal? Will it endanger anyone’s life, health or safety? Does it feel like the right thing to do? Is it in keeping with our values? Would I be prepared to tell my mother-in-law about it?
